When Fred T. Jane wrote in his introduction to the first edition of this Annual that it may or may not be many years before aviation is on a practical commercial or even military footing, little could he have visualized the task confronting the editor of this edition in attempting to summarize the contents of the hundreds of pages which follow the preface.
